North End one-bedroom condos were on tap this Sunday as we visited the historic winding streets of Boston’s North End. There are currently 14 one-bedroom units on the market, ranging in price from $239,000 to $789,000, and it’s really a mixed bag of what you will find out there.

In the North End, you’re oftentimes paying a premium to physically be in the North End – space is tight, the streets are European-like, and it’s a charming place to be. That said, some of the one-bedrooms leave you wanting more.
We visited seven condos, while the first five served as a prelude to the final units on Snow Hill Street…here’s a brief look at the units visited:
- 20 Thacher Street – a two-bedroom remodeled unit at street level. This unit has some nice features (new stainless appliances, granite counters, marble bath, etc.), but at only 550 square feet, it’s on the small side, and the bedrooms are rather claustrophobic.
- 206 Endicott Street – there are currently two available units in this small building. These units were actually on the market last year, then pulled off, renovations were performed, and now they are back on. Common roof rights is a bonus. The kitchens are nice, the floors sparkle, but the ceilings are quite low and the renovations are not that high-end.
- 138 Prince Street – despite only being 548 square feet, this unit has a great floor plan, and extra storage. The owner-occupied percentage in the building is rather low, and the common areas leave something to be desired. The unit overlooks a park, which may sound nice, but could lead to some noise issues. If you are looking for a unit that could use some renovations, this could serve as a good investment – currently it rents for $1,250 per month, but could more than likely fetch over $1,300.
- 26 Stillman Street – this is a studio in a renovated building with elevator access. Out of the available units, this North End condo is rather spacious and open (high ceilings, hardwood floors, and three large windows help). An in-unit washer and dryer is a plus. If you are looking for a studio, and don’t mind the high condo fee ($413 per month mainly due to the professional management and building amenities), this is a winner.
- 44 Snow Hill – at the top of Copps Hill, this was by far the best set of units we saw all day. 44 Snow Hill is a six-unit luxury remodel that concentrated on high-end finishes and craftsmanship. Currently a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom are available. The only thing really lacking in these units (with Bosch appliances and beautiful espresso hardwood maple floors) is an in-unit washer and dryer. Part of the low $160 per month condo fee includes two new stackable units in the basement that are free to access.
The 44 Snow Hill Condos are definitely the favorite of the day. After seeing the other available units on the market, it’s hard not to fall in love with the high ceilings and high-end finishes that 44 Snow Hill has to offer.
