A 2008 condo conversion, 67 Rutland Street is a 4-unit building on a one-way tree-lined street in the heart of Boston’s South End. Built in the late 1800’s, 67 Rutland Street served as a rooming house at one time, and was most recently purchased in 2005 as a single building. Electrical and non-historic portions of the roof were redone in 2006, along with the common areas. All units in the building offer original pine hardwood floors and some type of existing or exclusive rights to outdoor space. An alternative to purchasing an individual condo in the building, units 2, 3, and 4 could be converted into a duplex or a triplex. There is a lovely community garden located across the street from the building, as well, there are common laundry facilities on the second floor of the building accessible by all units.
Owner-occupants may want to renovate these condos, or consider them as a rental investment (units had in the past rented for approximately $1,300 per month).
An open house will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2008 from 12:00 PM to 3 PM at 67 Rutland Street (Google Map). For more details and photos of each individual unit, priced from $275,000 to $329,000, continue reading.

bummer to see an electric stove in an area where there should be gas…
Curious about your statement though – “Owner-occupants may want to renovate these condos, or consider them as a rental investment”. What is so bad about these places that I would of course want to renovate??? It just comes off as an insulting comment….
Actually, I stand corrected on my original post.
I did stop by and take a look, and these places are rough. The pictures make it look very nice (which is their job I suppose), but they haven’t seen any maintenance for 30 years. I’d actually be embarrassed to rent them out to anyone. Even the main stairs are out of true, and you feel like you’re falling over while just waking up to the unit. (and the roof most likely needs replacement).
Its an unfortunate reflection that in the South End, “affordable” now essentially means “dump”. In my own way, I wish the South End had never ‘caught on’. While trying to save for a down payment the condos spiraled out of control, until places like this are all hard working middle class folks have to look forward to. And it’ tough to resist leaving the city when we have places like this (MLS 70759416 – 502 Talbot Avenue Unit 2 in Dorchester) just outside, cheaper, and in immaculate condition. hmmmmm
Hello. I don’t think anyone who has read this blog entry or has read the MLS entries would be under the impression that the properties were anything but in need of complete renovation.
The photos show them as pretty barren, with old baths and plain appliances.
They would certainly work as rentals; they’ve been rented during the past year, in fact. And, there has been maintenance during the past 30 years. The listing agents have more information.
The disclosures on these listings seem pretty up front and responsible, in my opinion.
The other homes on this street seem to all be in top shape. It would be great if the units at 67 Rutland St were also renovated and filled with happy people.
